We often refer to “orthodentia” but the exact term is “orthodontics”. Coming from the Greek “ortho” meaning right and “odontos” signifiant tooth, orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and correction or treatment of dentofacial anomalies and dental malpositions. The technical term to describe these problems is “malocclusion”.

The practice of orthodontics requires professional skills for the diagnosis, planification, placement and control of the various corrective devices used to align teeth, lips and jaws that contribute to dentofacial harmony.
